IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection)

A High-Magnification Approach to Selecting the Best Sperm

What Is IMSI?

IMSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection. It is an advanced form of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), used in IVF treatment, where sperm are selected under very high magnification (up to 6000x) to identify and use the ones with the best shape and structure (morphology).

This allows embryologists to choose sperm with the least abnormalities, improving the chances of healthy fertilization and embryo development.

Who Might Benefit from IMSI?

  • You’ve had repeated IVF or ICSI failures
  • There’s severe male factor infertility (e.g. poor sperm morphology or motility)
  • There’s a history of poor embryo development
  • There’s unexplained infertility
  • You’ve experienced recurrent miscarriage

Benefits of IMSI

  • Better sperm selection at the microscopic level
  • May improve fertilization and embryo quality
  • May reduce miscarriage risk
  • Offers higher pregnancy rates in some patients
  • Helpful in cases with high DNA fragmentation
